Classic Movie Cafe

To Catch A Thief (1955)
Suspected in a new series of gem heists in the luxury hotels of the French Riviera, reformed jewel thief John Robie (Cary Grant) sets out to clear himself -- and catch the real thief -- with the help of pampered heiress Frances Stevens (Grace Kelly). Robie's plan backfires, but Frances, who believes him guilty, proves her love by helping him escape, and the real criminal is exposed in a spine-tingling climax. Alfred Hitchcock directs.
I have been on a Alfred Hitchcock kick since Alfred Hitchcock day and I have to be honest before this week I hadn't seen alot of his movie's, I just assumed that all classic thrillers are a little more humerous in comparison with today's suspense in films, however I was dead wrong. The storylines in these movies are so creative and keep you involved in the movie I'm beginning to realize the full genius that Alfred Hitchcock was. So Today I am just going to write about one of his movies the one I watched recently which to be honest isn't one of his best films and its a little out of the ordinary for Hitchcock to have romance in his movies and this one there is a definate romance. I guess the reasons why this is up on the list of classic movies that I love is a very simple one the movie is set on location in the beautiful French Riviera I think it has been a while since I've seen a movie on a more beautiful set, second I love that two giant stars are in this movie I absolutely love Cary Grant this movie shows a more casual side to him as well he's not always dressed in a suit instead you see him in stripes and polka dots and even dun dun dun swimming trunks I think its great how he appears so casual not the usual for this great star, I also think its crazy how tan he is in this film i didn't think it was that possible to get so dark. And of course America's Princess Grace Kelly what a beautiful actress to choose for such a beautiful location I love her in this movies she has sas and grace, and everything a woman wants to be no wonder they call her the American Princess she is truely timeless.
Here are a few photos from the movie.

This photo had to be included Alfred Hitchcock makes a cameo appearance in this film thats him on the right haha so fun.
I cannot think of anything greater in classic hollywood than to see Cary Grant and Grace Kelly driving around in a convertable in the french riviera...so sweet!

Here Grace points out "have you ever seen such beautiful shades of blue" i have to agree with her so scenic. Love It!
SRIPES AND POLKA DOTS!!! so great will you ever see Grant more casual than this.

Oh wait yes you will here he is in his swim trunks! what where is the suit.

One of my favorite scenes plotting out how to catch a thief in the most beautiful french flower market and the chase begins here the cops charge after Grant tossing bundles of flowers everywhere I may be a girl but how can you not love it.

Lovely French Actress I seriously love her strong accent and her desperate attempts at trying to sedduce Grant, what a sultry villiain i need to learn how to channel her skills.
What's more fun than the classic casino scenes.
They meet!
After Grant tells Grace Kelly that she is too nice of a girl for him SHE kisses him goodnight not such a nice girl after all! love it!
He's not sure what just happened.
I think one of the favorite scenes that classic hollywood movie maker's loved to film was party scenes and this one takes the prize home this costume ball was so extravegantely amazing!
Great costumes!
What a beautiful home
threats
plotting the catch

I love this scene the french temptress lures Grant away from the American Beauty Grace Kelly and out comes the claws as the American girl and the French girl fight over thier man. The climactic moment revealing of who the THIEF is!

Bye Bye Winter!!!!!

I'm so excited that winter is leaving us I know all you winter lovers are bummed but I seriously can't contain my excitement. Beautiful days are ahead sunny days filled with outdoor activities bbq's, beach days, more bike rides of course what could be better than the coming of Spring. Tomorrow is the first day of Spring celebrate it by being outside go for a walk pick some flowers wear a cute spring dress. I'm excited cause my roomates and I will be wine tasting in Temecula and its beautiful this time of year wild flowers are everywhere than we are going up to Idylwild on sunday to frolic in the mountains and enjoy beautiful nature. Anyways here are some pictures to get you inspired for SPRING!!

Have fun and wear a spring dress!

Classic Movie Cafe

I have only one classic movie recommendation for this weekend because I don't want to encourage you to stay in doors this weekend when the beautiful weather and the first day of spring are finally here, no instead spend your time outside. My one movie recommendation however is My Fair Lady, for some reason when i thought of what classic movie reminded me of spring My Fair Lady came to mind, maybe because the main character starts out as a flower lady selling flowers on the street. Anyways I love this movie so much. In this classic cinematic version of the Broadway smash, Audrey Hepburn is at her most radiant as Eliza Doolittle, the Cockney flower girl transformed into a poised duchess by Professor Henry Higgins (Rex Harrison, reprising his Broadway role). The restored and remastered special edition includes an audio commentary with crew members and Doolittle's singing voice, Marni Nixon. The film won eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

San Diego Fun Thing To Do!

I haven't posted a San Diego Fun Thing to do in a really long time so I decided to write about one today. There is a Park in Liberty Station that is really nice its a very large grassy area with a playground behind Liberty Station, right along the water. It is a great place to go for a picnic, bike ride, or to get a group together to play games, like ultimate frisbee or capture the flag!

New Break Cafe

It's also been a while since I have made any san diego recommendations. My recommendation for today is Newbreak Cafe in OB. I loved this coffee shop when I lived in OB, I would ride my bike there often to read and it's the perfect place to go and study I used to go there at 6am when I was in my Undergrad program at Point Loma, I was always a morning studier. Anyways they have a wide variety of tea that you can mix and match they have a wall full of jars of different tea flavors that you just grab and take to the counter for some yummy tea. They also have great hotchocolate and in the winter they have a cozy little fire going.

Favorite Things

Today I am going to write about a few things that I love and things that I would love to have or do someday but haven't done yet.
1. The Mini Cooper
I am so in love with Mini Cooper's I decided that when I have my mid-life crisis someday down the road after all my children have moved out and gone away to college and stuff I'm going to buy myself a mini cooper. Simply because I can have a tiny car by then and I'll have so much fun driving along in my adorable mini cooper!
2. Steamline Luggage
I saw on Design Sponge's blog a set of luggage that I am so in love with I would love to someday own a set of this beautiful luggage. Definitely not anytime soon the luggage I use for traveling now is perfect cause its rugged and great for adventures, but someday when I've slowed down some and need some luggage to suit my pace I am going to buy a set of this lovely luggage. (steamline)3. French Macaroons
So I think these little macaroon cookies are so pretty almost to pretty to eat. I love how they are so colorful too. I have seen them popping up everywhere and would love to make them someday. I'm a little nervous about making them though cause I guess they are a bit temperamental so ill have to really prepare myself for making these I get so discouraged when I can't make something but sooner or later i'm going to give these babies a try, I found great step by step directions from my favorite baking blogger, Bakerella.
4. Classic Literature
I'm obsessed with collecting books its kind of a flaw of mine because it makes moving such a nightmare but I would love to someday own a set of these beautifully designed penguin books that just came out. Someday I would love to have a beautiful dark wood book shelf and fill it with these colorful beauties! 5. Outstanding in the Field
I just found out about this wonderful thing called Outstanding in the Field and its where culinary chefs, farmers, and astisans get together and have a meal right at the source of where the food grows they set up these tables right in the vineyards, field, seaside and even in a museum in florence. And enjoy amazing food and celebrate the chef's that prepared the food, the farmer's that grow the food and the artisans that create the wine. It's super expensive so if I ever do this its going to be down the road when I have the money but right now I can dream can't I.
