The Dancing Lesson Edgar Degas 1873-76

The Swing Pierre-Auguste Renoir 1876
The Fifer Edouard Manet 1866Rue Montorgueil Paris Festival June 30, 1878 Claude Monet 1878

Sorry I have been missing in action I started work and classes this week so it's been a pretty busy week. Anyways I wanted to fill you in on my last weekend. On Saturday I went to the De Young Museum in San Francisco's beautiful Golden Gate Park. I went to see an exciting exhibit called the Birth of Impressionism. It was so amazing it was like a $20 ticket to Paris. The De Young Museum is the proud host of an exclusive exhibition from the Musee de Orsay in Paris France, right now the Musee de Orsay is going through some renovations and while that is going on in Paris it's most prized pieces are on display in the De Young Museum and it will be the only museum to host these pieces while away from their home in Paris. There is two parts to the collection the first part ended last weekend it was called the Birth of Impressionism I posted some of my favorite pieces from the exhibit. It was so incredible to see these famous paintings in person. I really enjoyed the exhibit and definitely had a greater appreciation for these famous painters. The following link shows more about that show. The next exciting exhibit Post Impressionist Masterpieces will take place on Sept 25 and continue into January you really shouldn't miss it! click on the link for more info.
Here is a preview of what is coming next that I just can't wait to see!

Classic Movie Cafe

TAMMY TYREE!!!!
This movie recommendation is an all time favorite Tammy will steal your heart! The first Tammy film starred the adorable and talented Debbie Reynolds (also star in singing in the rain) There was a series of 3 Tammy films the first starred Debbie Reynolds and the second two starred that adorable Sandra Dee. Usually when movies switch lead characters I can't stand it but both actresses fit the part so well that the change doesn't bother me.
The first of the three films is Tammy and The Bachelor (1957). When a small plane crashes near her country home, Southern girl Tammy (Debbie Reynolds) nurses its pilot, Peter (Leslie Nielsen), back to health. Soon, she's head-over-heels in love with Peter, charming him and his well-to-do family with her unique brand of small-town charm.

The Second film is Tammy Tell Me True (1961). As Tammy returns she is played by Sandra Dee and while Peter is away at agricultural school Tammy's lonely heart can't bear to sit around and wait for him. She decides to take her river house upstream and go to college. Here Tammy goes to college and teaches her teacher's about the 3 L's Learnin, Livin, and Lovin!

The third fim i'm not really going to recommend unless you absolutely love the first two simply because the first two were my favorites.
And here is a clip of the famous Tammy song sung by Debbie Reynolds from "Tammy and the Bachelor"

What is it about 20 something?!?!?

I just read an interesting article about young adults in their 20s and I am recommending anyone who knows, who is, or who is a parent of someone in their 20s to read this article.
The article focuses on a generation of people who are "emerging" into adulthood much slower than before. see this excerpt from the article.
" A cover of The New Yorker last spring picked up on the zeitgeist: a young man hangs up his new Ph.D. in his boyhood bedroom, the cardboard box at his feet signaling his plans to move back home now that he’s officially overqualified for a job. In the doorway stand his parents, their expressions a mix of resignation, worry, annoyance and perplexity: how exactly did this happen?

It’s happening all over, in all sorts of families, not just young people moving back home but also young people taking longer to reach adulthood overall. "

"The traditional cycle seems to have gone off course, as young people remain un tethered to romantic partners or to permanent homes, going back to school for lack of better options, traveling, avoiding commitments, competing ferociously for unpaid internships or temporary (and often grueling) Teach for America jobs, forestalling the beginning of adult life.

The 20s are a black box, and there is a lot of churning in there. One-third of people in their 20s move to a new residence every year. Forty percent move back home with their parents at least once. They go through an average of seven jobs in their 20s, more job changes than in any other stretch. Two-thirds spend at least some time living with a romantic partner without being married. And marriage occurs later than ever. The median age at first marriage in the early 1970s, when the baby boomers were young, was 21 for women and 23 for men; by 2009 it had climbed to 26 for women and 28 for men, five years in a little more than a generation."

OH DEER!

So I haven't really had a chance to tell you about my new place, so I'm not exactly living in the City this time I'm living just outside the city in whats called the peninsula. Well I have to admit that although the peninsula is not beautiful San Diego it is very beautiful in a different way.

For example there is nothing but pine trees and well hills covered in lots of other types of trees, even looking out the window of my bedroom I have a beautiful view of the hills around me and lovely trees including an apple tree that will soon be ripe! I'll have to make some of my famous apple sauce!

Another thing thats different about living up here is all the woodland creatures I feel like Snow White up here there are squirrels and racoons everywhere and not only that I've already had a few run ins with deers. The first night I drove up to my house with Tim we saw a deer running across the road then that same night before I went to bed I went to move my car and there was a very large deer right next to it nearly scared me to death.

I guess I'll have to keep my eye out while driving around these parts and actually head those deer warning signs.
