Joy to the World!

THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS CAROLS

I'm going to attempt to write a post a day about some favorite christmas carols. In celebration of Christmas. Today's carol is my favorite "JOY TO THE WORLD".

Did you know that Joy to the World was written by Isaac Watts and was an imitation of the last half of Psalms 98. Up until that time in history church hymns were limited to the psalms from the old testament. The deacon of a church challenged Isaac to write music at age 15 after Isaac complained about the atrocious worship in song; the deacon said to Isaac "the give us something better".
Well I have to say he did give us something better.

The tune was composed by George Fredrick Handel.

Joy to the world! The Lord is come
Let earth receive her King!
Let every heart prepare Him room
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven, and heaven and nature sing

Joy to the world! the Savior reigns
Let men their songs employ
While fields and floods
Rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy

No more let sin and sorrow grow
Nor thorns infest the ground
He comes to make
His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found
Far as the curse is found
Far as, far as the curse is found

He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of his love
And wonders of his love
And wonders and wonders of his love
