A tale of a mermaids love affair with the sea!

Is anyone else there obsessed with mermaids?!?!?! Don't you wish they were real, they bring such a sense of wonder to the sea! Most surfer girl friends I have love the idea of being a mermaid, and maybe that's why we love surfing so much, it's the closest we will be to being mermaids!!!

I have a cousin who is 8 and is obsessed with surfing she is so adorable, her mom told me she believes in mermaids so much she googled how to become a mermaid found this recipe for a potion that turns you into a mermaid. She went through the trouble of making the potion and pouring it on her legs and sat and waited for them to turn into a mermaid tail! How adorable is that! (She was very upset when it didn't work).

Does anyone else have mermaid memories or obsession with mermaids?

Here are some images of this mermaid wannabes obsession with the sea!

We all come from the sea, but we are not all of the sea. Those of us who are, we children of the tides, must return to it again and again!

Here's my little cousin she was so stoked to get a picture with Bethany Hamilton this weekend! If you look closely it says mermaid at heart on her shirt!

Is surfing fun or is it cool?

Ok I just have to ask do you surf to be cool, or to have fun?

The thought that prompted this question came to me on Sunday when I was out surfing with Tim and Elena on a pretty small day. There were waves and the sun was shining and we had the day off so what better thing to do than surf! right?!

Well I was out soaking up the sun enjoying the COLD water when I overheard this Father harping on his son for not catching a wave that went by, the son i might add was around age 7. I had seen him catch a few waves and he was definitely a skilled little grom, but as his dad rode off on the next wave I looked at his face and saw that there was no childhood innocence in his eyes. His brows were furrowed with concern and he had the look on his face of a boy who just disappointed his dad.

I immediately became frustrated and thought to myself, maybe I should stand up for that kid I mean his dad really needs to lay off surfing is supposed to be fun and he's freakin 7 let him be a kid and have fun, don't make it about work and about doing everything right and perfect. Parents and the pressure they put on their kids to perform is the one thing that really gets my blood boiling. A kid should be a kid they should enjoy childhood it's the only time in life where its acceptable to be irresponsible and spend your day having FUN. Let the worries of adulthood come once their childhood is gone, you only get one childhood don't spoil it for your kids. Ok so off my soap box with that!!!

It made me think about the Dad also, I started to think shoot, I wonder if that guy forgot when he first was learning to surf, I wonder if he forgot about how much fun it was when you catch a good wave or what the surf stoke is when you had an epic session. I then started to wonder if surfing was ever fun for that man, or was it always about being the best doing everything right catching the most waves etc.

And that's when I realized some people don't even get into surfing because it's fun they get into it because they think its cool (they're the ones that get pissed when they don't catch enough waves and have a bad attitude in the water), and to those surfers I have to say you are really missing out surfing is supposed to be fun that's the whole point. Catching a wave is FUN!!!!!!!!! not cool it's like getting the thrill of your favorite roller-coaster over and over for FREE. So all you surfers out there that are too cool for school lighten up and laugh and most importantly have FUN!!!!!!

Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving ~Albert Einstein

One of the activities in my life that brings me most joy is riding my bike!!! My husband bought me this adorable Yellow 1970's Vintage  Schwinn Bicycle. To this day some of my favorite memories are of something as simple as riding around on my bike! If it's been a while since you have been on a bike I recommend you get out there and ride, it will put an instant smile on your face! A Decade Gone By!!!

10 years in a nutshell

I decided that this birthday instead of feeling sorry for myself that I’m that much closer to 30 and that much farther away from 20, I would instead reflect and celebrate the past decade of my life! I mean age 17 to 27 has got to be one of the most exciting decades of a person’s life, so much happens to a person in that decade so here is a journey you can join me on as I take a look at mine!

Wintery Dreamin

So I might have lied about that last post being my last post for a while, because here is the second post in one day, I'm obviously procrastinating my homework. So I just wanted to take a look back at the winter break and remind myself that my life is not all work and no play! The holidays came and went like a flash, it was so wonderful to be home; my mom had the house all decked out in Christmas decorations it felt like we were all living in a Christmas dreamland. We had a wonderful time with the daycare family party, our family party and just visiting friends and family. My parents surprised us with a fun family trip to Disneyland!

My sister made it up for a visit to San Francisco before she flew back down to Honduras.

We got to surf a ton while we were home the most crowded day of the break was definitely Christmas eve day but how fun was it to wear a wetsuit and santa hat!
We all were stoked.
And before the semester started we decided to squeeze one more trip out of our break and head up the Fort Bragg CA where we stayed with our dear friends Josh, Mario, and Katie! It was a fantastic weekend I enjoyed a cozy beach fire and wine with my good friend Katie who I love!
And the boys had a great time surfing the frigid winter waves! We all piled into this brewery and enjoyed some quality time.

Overall I have to say that the holidays were a great time!
